Top up the heat with Harvia sauna stones – olivine diabase in a 20kg box, 5 to 10cm, the Finnish stone that sits in your heater. Stones break down with heating and cooling, so once a year they come out, the crumbled ones go, and the rest go back loosely stacked. Your sauna comes with a full set, so this is the top up.

How to Use It

Once a year, with the heater switched off and fully cooled, take all the rocks out and clear the debris from the bottom. Throw away any that have crumbled or cracked and top up with fresh ones. Stack them loosely so air flows through, with no pressure on the elements, and make sure the elements end up fully covered.

Why the Stone Matters

Good löyly needs stones that store and release heat well, stacked with gaps so the heat can rise through them. What quarry a sauna rock comes from matters, and Finland has great quarries.
